SALGADO WARNS UNITED

Michel Salgado has warned Manchester United about the threat posed by Lionel Messi. Rovers’ own Champions League maestro admits he has been tormented by Messi in past El Clasicos but believes Premier League champions Manchester United have what it takes to conquer Europe.

Ahead of the Champions League final at Wembley between United and Barcelona tomorrow night, ex-Real Madrid stalwart Salgado has spoken about his experiences against the man widely regarded as the world’s best player.

SALGADO GIVES SUPPORT TO KEAN

Blackburn defender Michel Salgado has said that he is fully in support of manager Steve Kean.

The Spaniard believes keeping a level head over the club’s current situation will prove the difference between survival and relegation.

The club sits 14th in the table with every point between now and the end of the season crucial..

Salgado believes that Kean has done a good job since taking the reins from Sam Allardyce and has reminded onlookers just how tight the league actually is this season.

SALGADO EXTENDS CONTRACT

Michel Salgado is going to stay in Blackburn so he has extended his deal with Blackburn. The 35-year-old Spaniard said earlier this month he was enjoying life in England and was keen to stay on at Rovers as they look to build under new boss Steve Kean and new Indian owners Venky's.

And the former Real Madrid man has followed up that statement by penning a new deal with the Premier League club which will keep him there until the summer of 2012.

Manager Kean told the club's official website: "To keep Michel here is great news.

SALGADO ENJOYING BLACKBURN LIFE

Blackburn defender Michel Salgado has said that he is enjoying life at Blackburn Rovers. The Spanish defender twice helped Real Madrid win the Champions League during 10 years at the Bernabeu.

But Michel Salgado, 35, preparing for FA Cup battle against Aston Villa today, said: “At Real Madrid you are going to have the chance to win a Champions League.

“It is more difficult to come here and try to raise a trophy to be honest.

SALGADO HOPING FOR BLACKBURN STAY

Michel Salgado has revealed that he wants to stay at Blackburn Rovers for more time. "Maybe we have to talk about conditions," Salgado told BBC Radio Lancashire. "That's another thing.

"But I'm really happy here at Blackburn with the fans, the respect they have for me and, to be honest, maybe there's a big chance to sign for another year."

The 35-year-old former Spanish international has six months to run on his current deal.

SALGADO PRAISES ALLARDYCE

Michel Salgado has praised Sam Allardyce and also thanked him for bringing him into the Barclays Premier league. The veteran right-back spent 10 years with Real Madrid before being released by the Spanish giants during the summer of 2009.

Allardyce invited Michel Salgado for a trial and saw enough to offer the 35-year-old a two-year contract with Rovers.

The former Spain international insists Allardyce's presence at Ewood Park was a big factor in him signing for Blackburn so he was disappointed the club's new owners took the surprise decision to sack the experienced manager last week.

ALLARDYCE TO HOLD TALKS

Sam Allardyce is set to hold talks with Michel Salgado to get assurances of his stay at Blackburn. The Rovers boss is unsure whether Salgado will decide to stay in East Lancashire next term, with the 35-year-old’s contract expiring this summer, but insists the Spaniard has already proven the doubters wrong.

Allardyce also revealed Michel Salgado’s former Real Madrid team mate Guti was ready to sign in the summer until wage demands scuppered his attempts and believes he could have proved another major addition.

LIAISON HELPS SALGADO

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has revealed the procedure involved in helping foreign players adjust to life at Ewood Park.

Defender Michel Salgado and Croatia forward Nikola Kalinic make up a contingent of over 15 overseas players currently on Rovers' books.

"We've got a liaison officer to cover all aspects of helping them settle in," said manager Sam Allardyce.

"You have to look at a complete life change and make sure they're happy."

SALGADO SCORES

MICHEL Salgado and Nicola Kalinic gave swine-flu hit Blackburn some much-needed cheer as they edged past gutsy 10-man Peterborough.

Salgado and Kalinic both scored their first goals in English football after Darren Ferguson's Posh had come back from behind twice.

Peterborough overcame the fi rst-half sending-off of keeper Joe Lewis to give Rovers a real scare at Ewood Park.

Chris Whelpdale cancelled out Morten Gamst Pedersen's early opener and then George Boyd equalised after Steven Reid scored his fi rst goal in three years from the spot.

SALGADO DISTANCES BLACKBURN

MICHEL SALGADO knows what it is like to be beating Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford but admits things are a little different these days.

In one of the most blatantly obvious statements of the season, he said: 'It's very different being a Blackburn player to a Real Madrid one.'

Rovers go to the self-styled Theatre of Dreams looking to end a nightmare run by securing a first away win of the season.

It is a sharp contrast to the first time he visited the stadium as one of Madrid's Galacticos in 2000, when a 3-2 victory set Real on their way to winning the Champions League.
